Letter from the Metropolitan: January 2012

Posted in: Metropolitan Message

We are entering into the dawn of New Year of possibilities; by saying good bye to the month of December with its uncertainty and tension. This uncertainty and tension was caused by the Mullaperiyar issue between Malayalies and Tamilians who were once having a cordial relationship. This relationship break resulted in the breach of peaceful living, this is an unfortunate event. The slogans raised by both sides are important, the slogan of Tamil Nadu reflects their concern about getting water to five districts in their state for cultivation and their hope for getting more water for other districts too by raising the water level to 6 more feet in the dam.

We are saying goodbye to 2011, though the conflicts were less, the people's movements for freedom that started in West Asia traveled to all nations wherever people's freedom was threatened. The impact of this movement gave a warning to those autocratic nations and leaders who are under financial crisis and deterioration. Let us hope and pray that 2012 would give freedom from this deteriorating system.

Metropolitan's message - November 2011

The lectionary of October encouraged us to be a witness, wherever we are and whatever the situation be. As we enter November, I praise God for the opportunity we are getting to witness Christ by observing various days and weeks of the organizations of the church. In September we observed Sevika Sanghom day, which helped us to ponder upon the role of women in church and society; Senior Citizen's day reminded us the importance of church's care and concern for the senior citizens. Voluntary Evangelists' Association Sunday theme was “Christian witness in a secular society”.

The golden month of Onam has just passed. Keralites did not get the Monsoon as expected and the Northern Kerala suffered much loss from the floods. Under the supervision of the Kunnamkulam-Malabar Diocese Episcopa, through CARD, the Mar Thoma Church was able to give financial aid from our relief fund to the people of this area.
